無類の猫好きだった浮世絵師・歌川国芳の究極の3部作。
東海道五十三次の各宿場の名前に語呂合わせ（＝地口）で猫の姿を描いたもの。
始まりの日本橋は鰹節2本で「二本だし」と始まり、終わりの京都は猫に捕らえられたねずみの声「ぎゃう」まで55の駄洒落と猫の姿が続く。
